Who is this girl?

I’ve always loved art and design, for as long as I can remember.  When I was a little girl, I would re-arrange my room almost weekly and spend my allowance on art and décor.  I excelled in art classes with a particular fondness for collage and sculpture.  When entering college, I passed up an opportunity to attend Art School, choosing what I thought was the more practical path.  I majored in Math and English, only to find that those subjects didn’t allow me the creative outlet I desired.  I spent the next 5 years changing majors:  landscape architecture, interior design and drafting, ending with Sculpture Art.  At the time, I knew nothing about computers, except how to write an essay.

It wasn’t until I started skating with the local roller derby league and joined the Creative Committee that I started creating art using computers, be it with Microsoft Word and Paint, but I managed.  And as much as I hate to admit it, it was MySpace that first introduced me to web design and coding.  Back before there were simple programs you could use to pick colors and fonts, I taught myself HTML basics to alter the appearance of my page.

I finally decided that graphic design was what I wanted to do and entered the Technology Development Center.  I fell in love from the beginning.  HTML and coding took me back to my enthusiasm for numbers and equations.  Photoshop and Illustrator reminded me of sculpture and collage, with layers you piece together to make a final product.

Design

I’ve always had a natural eye for composition… from a well balanced room, both in furniture placement and color disbursement, to images and text on a page.  I’m varied in my personal and design “style,” but tend to favor old fashion with a modern edge… or “retro,” I guess.  However, I can get into pretty much any style.

Much of the work I’ve created has been flashy, eye-catching design.  But I can appreciate an elegant design theme with a muted color pallet.  Please take a look at my Portfolio for examples of my work.

What can I do?

I’m trained in the Adobe Package and can create everything from a vector logo all the way to a fully functional web site.  I love the idea of taking a concept from the beginning stages and creating an entire business package, including logo, business cards, letterhead, brochures, and web.  I not only can design a web site, but I have experience in launching and maintaining multiple web sites as well.
